What are all the costs involved with buying a used car?

My 16 year old daughter is going to be buying a used car soon. I am not good with this sort of thing and I don't know all the costs involved. Can someone please give me a list of what happens with a used car purchase transaction?

I am having a certified mechanic check out each of the cars we are interested in getting, so I'm feeling comfortable that we'll choose a decent car, but I'm not sure about all the extra costs like what they charge at the sec. of state office, any transfer fees, license plate fees. etc. How do I find answers to these questions?
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!

Well, there’s the cost of the car to consider and that’s usually around 12 billion dollars or so….

It differs from state to state and if you are doing a private party sale or buying from a dealer. You need to pay sales tax on the purchase price when you go to register it in my state (New York) , plus registration fee , and you will be given a 10 day sticker to affix to the windshield enabling you 10 days to get the car inspected , if the vehicle is newer than the year 2000 it must also have an emissions test as part of the inspection.

Purchase price of car, sales tax, liscense fees, title transfer fee, insurance, inspection.
in missouri
purchase the car from a dealer he should provide an inspection at his cost. then you take all the paper work and proof of insurance to the DMV and pay sales tax on the purchase price minus trade allowance if you had one. you will also be charged a set fee for title transfer, liscense plates.
if you call your local dmv and tell them how much the car is you’re looking at, your zipcode and whether you live in town or out side city limits (also what county) then they could tell you over the phone how much the taxes and fees are going to be.
