buying used car
Newbie Driver asked:

I am trying to buy a used car through craigslist.org but since that website doesn't required a credit card or an address to posts like ebay how can I make sure that the car is not stolen and the person who I am buying from is the actual owner of the car? I've send 5 emails inquiries and two of them were scams. Those two asked me to sign up an account with the middle men ( a online company). The companies' names and websites addresses were different (one is .com and one is .uk) but both use the same website template.

I have replies from the other three which seems like normal owners/sellers, they gave me the VIN# and more pictures. I've check the VIN# on carfx.com and it's clear. But how can I make sure that they are real deal? How do I know they actually own the car?

Thanks
P.S. I almost bought a car from a private seller a few days ago that was introduced by a relative. Fortunately I checked carfax.com at the last minute and found that the car was in accident before and odor meter reading was inconsistant. But I lost the $100 deposit :(
